Ophthalmology

While our pets use all of their senses to navigate and experience the world around them, maintaining good vision is very important to their overall health.  We take a special interest in early detection of ocular disease and treatment of ocular trauma.  We have tonometry (intra-ocular pressure measurement) available for glaucoma detection, as well as pre and post-operative cataract surgery evaluation.  We use fluorescein staining for diagnosing corneal abrasions and ulcerations, ophthalmoscopy for retinal evaluation, and we have special surgical equipment that is necessary for repairing eyelid wounds, treating deep corneal ulcers, and removing eyelid growths or tumors.  Referral to a veterinary ophthalmologist is available for cataract surgery.

We are now offering PennHip radiographs  (X-rays) for early diagnosis of canine hip dysplasia. Dogs as young as 4 months of age can be screened, and when needed, early interventions can be instituted to lessen the effects of degenerative joint disease (arthritis) that results from having dysplastic hips. This is also an important hip screening test for potential breeding animals.  Call us for more information or to schedule your dog's screening.
